What to do

In life, in a year, in a minute, in a second, we are constantly looking ahead as humans. We obsess over the destinantion while ignoring the journey. We are told to “Enjoy the journey, it’s not about the destination”. But I think we have misunderstood this phrase. People assume enjoy means smiles, laughter, fun, and excitement every step of the way. That’s not real. Never has been, never will be. The man training tirelessly for a marathon isnt laughing throughout their 10 mile run. They aren’t smiling and skipping with every step of the way. But yet…. they are enjoying it. Enjoyment not in the miles run or because it feels good. It’s because it means something. Enjoyment of this type is not found in pleasure but in progress. It’s knowing that all this pain is building towards something. It’s in watching yourself become stronger. It’s in earning that finish line. Most people quit because they expect the journey to be fun. The Burden of Winning

Twenty-four years… twenty-four years of life, love, laughter, and a whole lot of winning. Being born in 2001 and growing up in Massachusetts has made life full of spoils. No matter what team you look at, they’ve won — and winning is all I know.  But things change when winning is no longer viewed as an option, but rather the only option.  Now don’t get me wrong, you play sports to win. Whether you are ten years old playing pickup with your friends or there is a minute left in the state championship, you play to win. Obviously, not everyone can win. There are 32 NFL teams and only one Super Bowl champion. So every year about 97% of fans will not win the big one. Most of these fans are immune or even numb to this feeling of loss at the end of the season. When you lose every single year, you become numb to it.
